The older we get the more we tend to look for the fountain of youth to help our skin look younger. At Life Essentials Day Spa we offer several treatments to help promote revitalized skin. Dermaplaning and Chemical Peels are currently available with Microdermabrasion coming soon. Below we explain the difference between each of these treatments so you can decide which one may be the best fit for you. These treatments are effective for women of all ages. It is important to note that hair will grow back the same color and texture as the hair removed. Contrary to popular belief, hair will not grow back thicker and darker than before. Please note as you read through the following that if you have a skin condition you are concerned with, or if you use any medications on your skin or for your skin, please consult a doctor or dermatologist prior to making an appointment with us.
Dermaplaning is an alternative to chemical peels with non-invasive results. Essentially dermaplaning involves using a sharp, sterile blade to scrape the skin of the face to help reduce wrinkles, dark spots, acne scarring and to remove peach fuzz. The procedure is painless and many find it relaxing. The removal of the top layer of skin is done with light strokes of the blade that exfoliate the skin. Dead skin cells come off and softer, more youthful skin takes its place.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels involve applying chemicals to the skin to inducing peeling and blistering. Similar to skin growing back after a wound, the skin that regenerates is smoother and softer than before. This treatment is recommended for people wanting to reduce wrinkles caused by natural aging and exposure to the sun. Chemical peels can also help reduce the appearance of scarring and acne-related scars, age spots and uneven skin tone.
Chemical peels make the skin more sensitive to the sun – they are sometimes compared to having a sunburn so it is important to stay out of the sun before and after chemical peels. If you have to be in the sun, wear a hat and broadband sunscreen. Fair skinned and light haired women often experience better results than darker haired patients.
We recommend consulting your doctor or dermatologist before booking a chemical peel especially if you take any medications or use any prescribed lotions for your face. During the peel you will experience a burning and or stinging sensation. After the treatment skin will be red and sensitive. Over the course of the next several days skin will peel and blister. After a week skin will be noticeably smoother and softer.
Microdermabrasion is another form of exfoliation. This is a non-invasive procedure. In this process the dead skin cells, or outer layer of skin, is buffed or sanded off. Microdermabrasion helps remove dead skin cells, increase collagen production in the skin (collagen is what keeps our skin tight and smooth when we are younger. As we age collagen production decreases leaving our skin sagging). This treatment is recommended for those looking to reduce fine lines, clogged pores, blackheads or whiteheads and uneven skin pigmentation. It can also help with stretch marks.
The skin may be red and sensitive for a few hours after the treatment so sunscreen is recommended if you need to be in the sun. However, we recommend staying out of the sun until you skin heals.
If you are interested in younger, smoother looking skin, call us to set up your appointment today. We are happy to answer any questions you might have as to which procedure is best suited for your skin care needs. At Life Essentials Day Spa your wellness is our top priority.
